Stop existing and start getting noticed.
You’re here because you’re tired of playing it safe, and you want to make a mark in your niche and in the world.
And I’m here to help you break the rules.
Hi everyone, thanks for stopping by my site! I’m Aggie Burnett, PR and marketing strategist for emerging lifestyle companies, dedicated to helping the underdog get noticed in a sea of lookalike brands.
I’m also a beauty-product and personal development junkie, avid traveler, wife, and (new!) mama to a fun-loving, precocious little boy. Before founding my niche fragrance company Nomaterra, (you can read more about how we got our brand in every Sephora store nationwide within two years on Entrepreneur), I cut my teeth as a beauty assistant at Glamour, as a spa marketing associate, as a marketing manager at a home-lifestyle startup, and as the founder of Nude House, a beauty, fashion and health pop-up in Soho, Manhattan.
So let’s get down to business—your business, to be exact. I’m committed to helping your brand gain valuable exposure and media attention, and I can help you stand out from the crowd using truly original and convention-breaking media strategies.
No more by-the-book, generic PR techniques that simply won’t scale to your budget and staff; instead, I’ll help you use the assets you already have to get your brand the exposure you need. So whether you want to gain traction across new channels or are just getting started and need to get your business noticed by relevant websites, magazines, TV stations, and influencers, I’m here to help.
I started this site while running my own brand, Nomaterra Fragrances, and serving as a PR consultant for beauty and lifestyle companies. After over a decade in the industry, I saw firsthand how many company owners were struggling to keep up with the hottest new marketing trends, the industry’s latest “tips and tricks.”
This kind of stuff tends to sound good on paper, but it just wasn’t speaking to the people building businesses from the ground up.
Posting several times a day on every social media platform and paying for multiple Facebook ads doesn’t make sense for most beauty companies and professionals working with leaner budgets and smaller staff.
I understand the dreams you are chasing.
Maybe your dream is to sell your beauty brand to Estée Lauder, or to get your Etsy shop noticed by the media. Or maybe you’re aiming to become the go-to spa or dermatologist in your town. Maybe you’re a mom like me, with limited time on your hands, and need to be sure you’re working with proven strategies that will get you the traction you need.
I get it. Business owners like you—and me, when I was first starting out—often struggle to find practical solutions to some of the industry’s trickier questions, like:
How can I get editors and bloggers to write about my product for free?
How do I find the right influencers to partner with in order to increase traffic and drive leads?
How do I present pitches in a way that moves influencers to respond and engage with my brand?
How do I gather more user-generated content so I don’t have to keep spending money on in-house content?
How can I build a stronger relationship with my customers?
How do I tell the story of my brand in a way that truly resonates with consumers?
How do I take my small company from obscurity to prominence as a leader in my niche?
I knew there had to be a better, simpler way to address these challenges than relying on outmoded, traditional PR strategies. So I set off to build an original marketing and PR strategy and tested it on my own fragrance business, fine-tuning my methods along the way.
In order to achieve successful media outreach and get the exposure I wanted, I had to work with the assets I already had, rather than focusing on what we lacked. Out went the old school PR rules, and in came my own guerilla methods, tailored to my small business and its unique needs.
I’ll help you reach the platforms you need to gain a real following.
I don’t want to fit you into a box, and I don’t want to use by-the-book, antiquated techniques that won’t work for your company. Instead, I’ll show you how to harness your own unique assets and knowledge, as I did, to grow your company in a way that works for you. Here’s why:
- As company founder, you know your point of differentiation better than anyone else. You are the heart of your brand, which makes you its strongest spokesperson. You are best-equipped to approach the media and share your company message.
- As a young, nimble brand, you can partner up with other fledgling businesses and effectively leverage each others’ skills, connections, and assets.
- You can use your entrepreneurial size to your advantage, directly engaging in honest, open conversations with your customers, crowdsourcing services and products, and serving consumers on a more intimate level.
I’m so excited to expand on this knowledge in my blog (and in my upcoming course on DIY PR for beauty and lifestyle companies—stay tuned), helping you capture the attention of the right people using your brand’s unique assets.
In this way, I can help your company garner influence and awareness that is honest and real and resonates with your community.
I can help you build stronger relationships with your customers through the power of genuine connection.
And, ultimately, I can help you grow your business in a way that brings you truly valuable, continuous media coverage and gets your products into the hands of the best retailers around.
No matter where you are on your business journey, I’ll ensure you have the tools and know-how to bring it to the next level.
I understand firsthand how hard it can be to get off the ground and connect with the right people; standing out from the competition takes hard work and creative solutions, and I’m here to help you unlock your full potential.
Traditional PR strategies simply won’t work for your beauty brand.
Generic, out-of-touch PR tactics probably won’t be able to serve the unique needs of your small business.
Instead of focusing on what makes your brand original and different, by-the-book pr strategies tend to apply a one-size-fits-all approach.
Not only does this take away your autonomy in shaping your company’s image, it doesn’t connect you with the specific influencers you need to grow your brand.
Maybe you’ve tried handling media outreach in-house and got lackluster results, or felt constantly unsure of the story and image you were putting out.
Maybe you struggled with understanding the best time to pitch certain media outlets.
Or maybe you’ve been biding your time until you have more capital but are tired of waiting to make the changes you need to.
I’ve been through it all, and I know how tough it can be to get your company the recognition it deserves in a sea of me-toos.
But I’m here as proof that you don’t need to wait until you have more money or until your company reaches “the next level.” You don’t need to spend a fortune to effectively grow your brand, and I’ll be here to show you how.
So here’s what you won’t find working with me.
I’ll never waste your time with anything that doesn’t directly help you gain brand exposure and reach new clients and influencers.
You won’t find boilerplate strategies pulled from old-school PR handbooks. It’s 2018, and companies must think outside the box to truly stand out.
Instead, I’ll show you how to get media coverage that works for your brand, and how to leverage that coverage to bring new clients to your site and get people engaged with your company.
And, as your company grows, you’ll be able to scale these techniques as needed.
So, what can you expect from me?
I’m dedicated to providing no-nonsense, actionable solutions for your beauty, wellness, or lifestyle business. On my blog and in my newsletter, you’ll find directly useful, innovative techniques for growing your brand and becoming the company you’ve always dreamed of.
